Totally understood. Be well, Ed.
It is my understanding that Edward is REALLY busy with work right now, so is letting this field lie fallow until he has time/energy to do this justice.
Perhaps I was mistaken. Did this die?
Don’t tap the mic. Its on. Like Donkey Kong.
Is this thing still on?
It’s easiest to say what skill or attribute you’d like to raise and then figure the cost. For attributes it’s 10 per. For skills it gets more expensive the higher you go relative to your attribute, either DX or IQ.
Well, I overcame my laziness and tried to download the rules. Unfortunately, it didn’t work as all it did was produce an extra blank page on my screen. I tried.
Don’t think your honesty isn’t appreciated.
I’m too lazy to download the rules.
I’m saving towards either higher HT or DR/1
Going to save up and boost Attributes this time.
No XP being spent? Episode 4 coming up soon…
Wait, nobody’s going to comment on that ending? That totally awesome ending?
Heh. Here we go again. One minute, exuberant over my shot, the next pretty sure my character is about to get killed. Well played, Edward. Well played.
I’ve added markers to the map to show where I think everyone is. Please move your marker if I’m wrong.
On thing I hate is a fair fight.
You’ll notice Clarence is at the reins. ;)
Now go back down that alley and shoot people, Neko. We know you like that.
Giddy up, boys. That wagon won’t move by itself. You have to pay extra for one of those.
Silly Shane was the sentry, then he went in and tried to help the man we had crippled. Bye, bye Sentry!
Waiting for Vanessa, then I’ll start heckling Maks…
I think our enemy has show himself a dunce if he hasn’t covered the exit. But so were we for not posting a sentry.
I apologize if anyone deems Kelley’s plan less tactically savvy than you would like. Unfortunately he is the tactically gifted one, not me.
This game isn’t too kind to half-measures. And our mastermind is right outside, taunting us. If anything, I should have been more impulsive and murdered him in the street!
Ya coulda just knocked him over the head or stuffed something in his mouth…
What now? The prisoner? No good letting him shout our plans to the enemy.
DAMN YOU NEKO!!
Heads up, I will be offline until this evening, at least. Everyone please post what you’ll be doing next.
Awww, just dash a boy’s hopes…
Why, thank you!
Also, everyone should be assured that there was nothing (deliberately) homoerotic about my invitation to TN to “handle my shotgun.” Though I doubt it will be the last time our cowboys step into double entendre.
Neko “we have left our pistol-packing porcelain princess unaided” was a truly fabulous line. Thanks.
Sorry, I’m just perceptive.
Well, that major plot point is ruined now, thanks.
The steam powered robot gopher that commands his every action.
Neko, I’ve got to be honest here – I’ve got no clue what you’re trying to cover up with Randolph’s acting.
Ok, I am glad you cleared that up Ethan, Cause I was really confused. I didn’t remember correcting that. I figured I had missed some detail and that is why the name was wrong.
Vanessa, I just saw your comment about getting Dunning’s name wrong. Sorry about that. That’s what I get for posting while running a business – forget some key details here and there. :P
“A battle of wits now! The dirtiest and foulest kind!”
slow clap Bravo, sir, bravo.
He won’t survive the campaign. I’ll see to that. ;)
There’s little doubt that if he survives the campaign, Randolph will grow up to be a cold-blooded killer, or a lawyer. Brrr!
Oops! I will use Edward’s OOC thread after this. The previous comment and an in character forum post were posted before I realized I was not signed into my account. Sorry.
Dunning, it’s Shane Dunning! If it was in character, I could understand mostly because most people haven’t been introduced. :p MDM
Yeah, the dastardly bit is already leaking out of you, Neko. :P
Indeed, a pity that none of the miscreants survived, NEKO…
I’ve been waiting all my life to say, “an heinous,” and I wasn’t going to lose the chance.
I just sort of amalgamated their appearance and Wheat’s reaction in the game to move things along — let me know if you’d prefer I not.
Don’t confuse Shane’s ‘boy’ comment with Randolph’s remarks. Nekos post went up while mine was being typed.
Eighteen on three d six is a 1/216 occurrence. You could play many games and never see one. Bravo!
I know I was ‘sweating bullets’ what with the GM’s earlier deadly assertion about gun play. I immensely enjoyed it and am having a blast RPing with you guys.
I will also say I didn’t really fathom the wackiness of Shane’s shot till after the fact. It was good to have some more informed people talk about it so I know that was a lucky shot and that I should probably move him closer in the future. I sat here after work trying to gauge the distance and came to know that was kind of absurd especially when given the technology in play.
And to think that people say GURPS is confusing!
No, wait. not dying was the best part.:p
Personally, I feel the fight went about right for Clarence and Kelley. It’s Clarence’s first gunfight, so it makes sense he’d be out of sorts and not necessarily contribute. It’s a classic western meme.
Kelley’s not fast, and was depending on force of personality, which wasn’t enough. Plus, he’s still a bit drunk. I actually though the part where he tried a snazzy trick but his body wasn’t up to it was the best part. :P
Nope, if Clarence aimed, he’d gain a +2 to skill for accuracy, cancelling out the range penalty, and leaving his effective skill high enough to avoid a snap shot penalty. You too can be a killer!
Well, dang. I’d’a missed if I’d walked up, put the gun to his head, and spent the next four rounds aiming.
Neko, I laughed aloud at “that’s too bad for Callahan.”
WHEW!!!! I’M NOT DEAD!!!! I’M NOT DEAD!!!
Four Men in Three Seconds: the Abilene Livery Shootout.
Shane Hathcock. True statement.
It’s actually feasible, and I wasn’t intending to imply otherwise. An 18 skill nearly makes him Carlos Hathcock, and the Sharps is quite capable of accurate fire at that range. It’s a heck of a shot, though!
It’s at the weapon’s extreme range — it’s actually past the halved damage range for GURPS, and an 8x telescopic sight was used. I may have been supposed to halve the gun’s base accuracy, but happily for me, Ethan rolled so well it wouldn’t have mattered. One for the record books!
A 700 yard headshot with a Sharps rifle?? Hot damn!
NICE SHOOTING ETHAN!!!! Way to save an old man’s life!!!
I always preferred this one. Your text to link here…
No, Shane stayed at the scene of the evidence.
Okay, so the PC distribution as I understand it currently is:
Livery: Randolph, Shane, Ming
The Drover’s Inn: Maddux, Clarence
That does seem to be the word of the evening.
NP, MDM. Something to read over lunch at my desk. :P
Sorry if that post was long-winded, guys. I just wanted there to be some explanation when Kelley shows up all cleaned up, etc.
Well, you can turn on email notifications for anyone else in the game at the bottom of your post, when you make it.
If I’m not mistaken, posts on the forums (where we actually play) do not count as updates! You have to check to see if “your turn” has come up.
In Forums, just reply in the IC thread.
So, are we to respond to the thread thats up there or will there be some other direction?
Oh, sorry. I just meant to be sure that I’m selected as one of the recipients of an email notification for your post. I know some folks don’t like that, but for me, it’s very necessary.
I don’t understand your direction. Do you mean that we should look for emails from you in our personal accounts?
And we’re live! Please be sure to check my name for email notifications when you reply to the thread.
When all the villains are shot and the heroes ridden off, somebody needs to narrate the story. Also, appear on the cover holding a dog and looking to the horizon.
Nice job, Mr. Thompson. A much needed ground for the group.
Official start is today. I’m still awaiting a character backstory from Chris, and I need to figure out Vanessa’s gear though, so we may have some minor delays.
[fatbot] Oh boy oh boy oh boy.
Okay, Vanessa’s character’s stats are posted for her to review. I’ll figure out gear tomorrow.
I need to create Vanessa’s character, and once Chris gets settled in from his trip we can get to work on his.
We’re getting close to launch. Everybody loaded up?
I did it! I finally contributed something. Sorry it took so long. I hope it is acceptable.
Vanessa’s character has a name and a chunk of her backstory fleshed out.
I believe he’s going to be a farm boy of some description.
Is he a mad, mexican bomber? Does he bomb at midnite?
And I for you: veranda.
Es a sweater!
I, in turn, have one word for you: math.
Edward, I’ve got two words to guide your coversation re Chris’s character: crazy, mexican, bomber
We sat down and had another talky session last night. She’s looking at playing a lady gunslinger. More details as we hammer them out.
I’ll be talking to Chris about his character when I see him tomorrow morning; Vanessa, do you have an idea of what kind of character you want to play?
Wrong system. This is GURPS, where we pronounce it “for-tay.”
I’m also thinking wisdom and willpower type scores would be his forte.
I was thinking about tracking and a bit of native american medicine. I want him to do the tomohawk thing. Stoic, unfortunately comes to mind. I do want to play up the at peace, philosophical side of things.
Nice Backstory Ethan!
Hot dingy-dang, Ethan! That’s some deliciously well-thought-out backstory! Only one question: any attributes that are of note for him, aside from being a crack shot?
I dood it! Let me know if you want anything changed or clarified.
Done. I went with a fairly orthodox armament — the revolvers could also easily be Gunnison and Griswolds, Richmond-built clones of the Navy Colt. Let me know if you want to jig anything around a bit or I missed anything.
We never did equip my guy, Ed. Can you outfit him from Confederate surplus with the following:
pistol x 2
And provide a fencing sword appropriate to Virginia aristocracy, please?
The pistols will not be in speed holsters. If he needs to duel in the street he’ll tuck into his belt.
You’re a good soldier, SFTG.
I’m working on it, honestly. Just a bit more research to do. Then its on to help the wife.
Incidentally, I do have all my books up here with me. Just sayin’.
Hello from Michigan! Here’s a helpful list of common US names as taken from 19th century censuses. http://www.galbithink.org/names/us200.htm
I’ve driven through Abilene on the highway…
Well, since we’re doing GURPS in the 19th century, I’d love to see “Disadvantage: hookworm” or “advantage: typhoid carrier” in action.
Incidentally, I’m happy to chit-chat about character ideas on facebook or via email or here, if anyone wants to bounce ideas off me.
I’ve never been. I’m quite fond in general of remote small town life, though I suppose I’d detest it were I from one.
I believe Eisenhower grew up in Abilene.
Am I alone among the players actually to have been to Abilene? I found it a perfectly boring prairie town of the sort that looks better and better in hindsight the older I get.
What remains of my 4th grade education informs me that a chunk of Kansas was claimed by the Republic of Texas, but I don’t know whether the territory included Abilene.
Ah, goshdarnit, Neko, quite right. That was a map of Abilene, TX, not Abilene, KS. It’s been removed.
Airships fly over the South Pass of the Rockies — also used for wagon traffic — a low plateau dividing the central and southern Rockies.
Just where do the airships cross the Rockies?
I see from the map that Abeline is part of Texas in this epoch. Was there no Kansas-Nebraska Act in this timeline?
There was no sense fighting it.
I wondered how long it would be before someone quoted The Band.
You look a mite older than my guy. Let’s see who can out-Southern whom.
“Like my father before me, I will work the land. Like my brother before me, he took a rebel stand. He was eighteen, proud and brave, when a Yankee put him in his grave…”
Dammit, Neko! You stole like HALF of my schtick!!!! Damn you, you yellow-bellied peckerwood!
Looking for 80’s metal themed chapter titles here!
What can we say, it’s the only road we’ve ever known.
Here we go again!
